Background Check Podcast
After five DWI’s landed me prison, something had to change. One day I got into a fight and I spent eight days in solitaire confinement thinking about my life and the decisions I had made that led me to that dark place, literally. I came out of the hole a different man with a different heart, mind, soul, direction, and outlook on life. I got mentored by a couple of inmates who eventually made parole but within a year they were both back in. This confused me and ticked me off. I wondered how I was going to make it out there. Since my release in 2006 we’ve opened up a transitional house for men, with another ”ranch” coming, launched a documentary, been on the Mike Huckabee Show, launched this podcast, and it goes into prisons all over the nation.

Show Summary: Today on the show I talk about Christmas in prison and how Covid19 has turned our prison system into a huge mess. I reminisce about my holidays in jail and prison and how my family was impacted deeply by the decisions I made. I list some stats about the current positive cases and death toll among inmates and staff. The staff are put in the middle of all this. If they don’t do their job, they’ll lose it but if they do their job, they could die. The inmates are treated poorly as well. We can do better as a system. I put a link to a recent investigative video of what is going on in our Texas prisons. The mayor of Palestine, TX had some blunt things to say about our system. Check out the link on our show page as well as Christmas cards that I drew in prison. I posted a couple of letters to my mom and dad during that time too. forgivenfelons.org/backgroundcheck

In this episode I talk about grace and truth, my parenting skills, our legal system, and how it can use a little more grace. Thank you for listening. If you can, and you listen on apple, please give us a review and rate us if you don’t mind. For more information and pics of my car wreck visit the show page at: forgivenfelons.org/backgroundcheck

Show Summary: Today's episode was recorded on Thanksgiving Day 2020 at the Forgiven Felons house. On the holidays, most of our guys go spend it with friends and family. But there are usually several men who are on lockdown and cannot go anywhere on holidays because they wear an ankle monitor. Each year we stop by Boston Market and grab thanksgiving meals and spend time with these men. This year it was Chris Aguilar, Chris and Georgianne Ramirez, Boyce Gholson, Daniel Lindsey, and of course my beautiful bride, Jessamy. We ate then talked about thanksgiving in prison and what they're most thankful for now that they're out. We had fun and could've talked for hours about what we are thankful for. Show Summary: Jay Dan goes solo this episode and talks about winning in prison. Prison is not always about being in a cell in a real prison. It can sometimes be a prison of debt, grief, unforgiveness, bitterness, you get the idea. The three main points are 1. It's not about you. 2. Use your gifts talents. 3. You have to want to make parole. So whether you have someone in prison you can share this with or use it for yourself for what you are going through, please share this with someone. Show Summary: Titan Gilroy has his own tv show, he built a CNC Academy in San Quentin Prison, and he runs a multimillion dollar business. But the road map he took to get there was filled with homelessness, beat downs by bullies, prison, boxing with Top Rank boxing, and starting out at a $9 an hour CNC job. In this episode Titan talks about living homeless on the beach with his mom, getting beat up every day at school, that night that landed him in prison, his first CNC job making $9 per hour, and how he has turned that into the business and academy he runs now. We talk about the academy and why he gives all his education, which spans the globe with students, for free. We talk about faith a lot and politics just a tad, but we also talk about his move to Texas. We can’t wait til he’s fully transitioned to Flower Mound so we can go hang out with him.
